SOMASIX Magnetic Letters and Numbers

Disclaimer: I received this product heavily discounted in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.

When we first started having kids we received a lot hand-me-downs. Included in these was a rather incomplete set of alphabet magnets for the fridge. For a long time we got by with that set until our daughter got old enough she actually wanted to actually learn the alphabet so we had to get another set that had all the letters. Unfortunately that set only had one of each letter so you can only spell so many things. Now that she is older, she is learning to spell her name which has a couple duplicate letters, as well as lots of other words so once again we needed to expand. This time I ordered the SOMASIX Magnetic Letters and Numbers - Educational Refrigerator Magnet Set for Kids 62 Pieces. It comes with an uppercase and lower case of each letter and numbers 0 through 9.

I had hoped with this set we'd be able to continue to expand my little girl's knowledge as well as start to teach letters to her little brother. This set is nice in that it has more letters and numbers than a lot of other sets and obviously was a huge improvements on used sets that have been passed down to me before. Other than that it seems like a pretty standard magnet set. Honestly I was hoping for a more secure magnet. These only have the one small magnet on the back as most do.

I've had similar sets before where the small magnet falls off the back and becomes a choking hazard or the magnet isn't strong enough and the letters end up under the fridge. I'd have really liked to see a full magnetic back like there is on some wooden magnet sets. However I didn't want the stress of splinters so plastic seemed like a better option. Despite that the magnet does seem to be very securely attached which diminishes the fear of a choking hazard. My concern of them not staying on the fridge instead of ending up under it still remains but so far seems OK. My kids  have enjoyed playing with them and it's nice to have 2 off each letter allowing them to at least spell their names.
